Overview

OA-0145 is a general-purpose retention category at CFL encompassing several retainer types not captured under more specific product IDs. Key products include: the Invisible Retainer (thermoformed clear, Essix-type), the San Antonio Retainer (a flat-arch-form wire retainer), the L. Phase One Hybrid Retainer (lower phase I mixed dentition retainer), and the L Flat Wire Retainer. These represent CFL's retention solutions for diverse clinical scenarios across phase I treatment, comprehensive treatment, and specialty retention needs.

Clinical & technical

Mechanism of action

Each retainer type maintains teeth in their post-treatment positions by encapsulating or contacting the tooth surfaces. Thermoformed clear retainers (Invisible Retainer) use full-arch coverage. Wire retainers use labial bow contact. Phase I retainers are designed to accommodate the mixed dentition, with spaces for erupting permanent teeth built into the design.

Indications & case selection

Invisible Retainer: Standard clear thermoformed retention; Essix-type; upper or lower. Invisible Retainer with Palate: Clear with additional palatal reinforcement. L. Phase One Hybrid Retainer: Lower arch phase I retainer combining lingual arch and thermoformed elements. L Flat Wire Retainer: Flat ribbon/wire labial retainer with acrylic backing. San Antonio Retainer : Premium flat-arch wire retainer — smooth, polished, full labial contact.

Contraindications & limitations

Each variant has specific compliance requirements (removable) and indication ranges. Phase one retainers must be updated as the dentition develops.

Lab fabrication notes

Phase one hybrid retainer requires careful design to accommodate erupting teeth — spaces must be provided for unerupted premolars/canines while holding the existing arch form. San Antonio retainers use a flat/ribbon wire for smooth labial feel; the wire must follow the labial contour precisely. Flat wire retainers reduce wire-to-soft-tissue friction compared to round wire.
