The PowerBar Class II Corrector is a fixed functional appliance that delivers Class II correction through a direct-bond mechanism without the need for molar bands, Herbst pistons, or removable components. A free-moving bar seated in a socket on the upper arch delivers forces to the lower arch, achieving Class II correction through efficient segmental tooth movement. The universal design works on both left and right sides of the maxillary arch. 23 sizes are available (color-coded for inventory), allowing the PowerBar to span canine-to-molar or premolar-to-molar depending on the patient's arch configuration. Initial PowerBar placement can reduce total treatment time by beginning Class II correction before full bracket bonding.
The PowerBar's free-moving rod in socket design allows the mandible to function naturally while delivering a continuous Class II corrective force. The upper appliance (bonded to upper arch) and lower connection (bonded or banded to lower arch) are connected by the bar mechanism. The force vector delivers a combination of upper molar distal force and lower molar mesial force, correcting the Class II relationship. Molar rotational control during treatment is enhanced by the free-moving bar design.
Class II malocclusion in growing and non-growing patients; cases where a simple fixed appliance without full banding is desired for initial Class II correction; early treatment applications where Class II correction precedes full fixed appliance placement; practices wanting a versatile, easy-to-place fixed Class II corrector.
Not for Class III; skeletal Class II cases may need orthognathic surgery rather than a functional appliance; anchorage must be adequate to resist the reaction forces; not appropriate for Class II correction in fully non-growing adults without combining with other mechanics.
PowerBar is a manufactured device (American Orthodontics) — purchased by the practice and placed chairside. No lab fabrication required.
