Overview

MTM (Minor Tooth Movement) Clear Aligner is a limited-scope clear aligner system focused specifically on the anterior six teeth. Unlike comprehensive aligner systems (Invisalign, ClearCorrect) that plan full-arch tooth movement, MTM targets minor anterior alignment issues — crowding, spacing, rotation, midline discrepancy — that can be resolved in 3–6 months. Custom clear trays are fabricated from patient impressions or scans, with a digital treatment plan reviewed by the doctor. The system is designed for general dentists as a straightforward anterior alignment solution with a lower cost and shorter timeline than comprehensive aligner therapy.

Clinical & technical

Mechanism of action

Sequential clear aligners (polyurethane) apply controlled forces to the anterior teeth, moving them gradually in the sequence planned digitally. Each aligner is worn 20–22 hours/day for 2–4 weeks before advancing to the next. Total movement is typically up to 2.5–3 mm per arch. Attachments are rarely needed in MTM cases (minor tooth movement, no significant torque or rotation). Treatment ends with retention.

Indications & case selection

Anterior crowding ≤3 mm; anterior spacing (diastemas); minor Class I relapse; rotation correction of anterior teeth; midline discrepancy <2 mm; adult patients seeking a clear, short-term alignment solution; GPD practices offering a non-specialist clear aligner option.

Contraindications & limitations

Not for Class II/III, posterior crowding, deep overbite correction, skeletal problems, or movements requiring more than anterior tipping; significant rotations and torque changes exceed MTM capabilities; patients expecting comprehensive treatment should be referred.

Lab fabrication notes

MTM laboratory handles fabrication — doctor submits impressions or scans, approves the digital setup, and receives the full set of aligners. Fabrication is external (MTM lab), not CFL. Cross-reference: CFL's aligner fabrication is covered under Clear aligner.
